Home > About FatDAW64

This machine was put together by Pops for Kirk and Ric to have something to assemble movie clips on from Kirk's Q3. Ric, being the nerd that he is, looked at the two empty 5.25" bays and started designing a guitar interface/DI thingy to fit in one of them, sort of a PPA (Practice and Play Along) pre-amp, and so it goes.

FatDAW is a machine that was adopted from Pop's Pound, a collection of computers destined for the land fill unless they can find a good home, and we are happy to have it to work with. Especially because it has twice as much RAM as anything Kirk or Ric has to donate to the cause. And it's just nice having a dedicated workstation. (Thanks again, Pops!)

As information on this old system becomes known it will be archived here for further reference.

Here's what's known so far today:

Someday I plan to have breakdowns of how this old dawg jumps through its hoops under each operating system by publishing short articles about what projects we use this machine for. (Besides web-development and FatDAW64 pages, that is).

The site is here to chronicle the deeds of FatDAW64 and to provide a little information on FatDog, the 64 bit Puppy Linux distribution that sometimes powers the workstation FatDAW64 on our little home net.

As previously mentioned, this system was re-purposed for Kirk and Ric to use to assemble movie clips from Kirk's Q3 for a project for BluStreetsRecords. Since that project hasn't started yet there is nothing to report except building this web site, which has been constructed on FatDAW64 while booted to FatDog.

Upcoming projects are the digitization of a suitcase full of 4 track tapes of several years of sessions with Grant Rose, the recording of some folk songs by Ric, and the mastering of one song by Kirk. It's going to be fun seeing what the summer brings.
