Ekone (eh-koh-nay) is what the Native Americans called this area of the Columbia River Gorge before the settlers came and started carving it all up into farms, homesteads, and municipalities. It is what many people still call it today. Ekone (eee-koh!-nee) is how many residents and visitors pronounce it, but it still means the Land of the Good Spirit all the same.
